There's quite a few problems with that article.

In the first place, hemp and marijuana are two different plants -- related, sure, but different. The plants used for hemp production dont' contain enough THC to be "useful" as "pot" even if you keep only unfertilized female plants.

In the second, it is only illegal to *grow* hemp here. In practice, quite a bit of it is imported to make clothing, which is perfectly legal to do so -- I have shoes, wallet, jacket, etc made of hemp purchased legally here. The industry is doing well enough that the prohibition on growing hemp may be rescinded eventually.

In general, hemp production is breeding varietals with lower and lower THC counts. That's why hemp is increasingly being grown across Europe/Canada/Australia for export as well as domestic use.

That obviously does not address the medical uses of smoking it, of course, but the article is conflating the two varieties in an effort to argue that high THC count varieties should be legal (and that they can be used the same way the low THC count varietals (hemp) are) which is misleading.
