Ever hear of the "American Cargo Cult"?? - One person's lack of compassion does not equal another's comfort.
One person's lack of comprehension does not equal another's consent.

Ever hear of the "American Cargo Cult"??
That's what it is called here http://klausler.com/cargo.html. (Link lifted from polydad)

In the past I've had similar ideas and theorized that what causes this type of thinking has a lot to do with how we teach our children history.

When I was in school, we were taught American history, which included everything from the first pilgrims and how they got along so well with the native Americans right through how we later slaughtered them. There was some thought given to how this wasn't quite fair but not very much.

I think it is generally bad idea to historic concepts in such a cold manner that the unacceptable appears acceptable. I think it is necessary to teach our children that our country has not always done the right thing and that it is necessary at times for the individual to express dissent in spite of the apparent will of the majority.

Whenever I've heard people discuss W.W.II, there's that same question, "how could the good people of Germany have allowed such atrocities to happen in their country?" The answer of course is, not everyone knew and the few who did were powerless to stop things, or felt they were. There was dissent, and dissenters were jailed.

Though I'm proud to live in a country where dissenters are *rarely* jailed... it doesn't do use very much good if the sheeple... I mean the average citizen, is of the opinion that the majority must be right and therefore don't take the time to think things through for themselves.

Unfortunately we live in a country where private interests and the government coerce the people through distributing misinformation as fact (propaganda) and by coercing scientists into printing misinformation because the truth is "inconvenient".
