How does questioning the validity of the war itself "discredit" the soldiers themselves? - One person's lack of compassion does not equal another's comfort.
One person's lack of comprehension does not equal another's consent.

This other Comcast article focussing on one anti-war protest has a very interesting quote of the founder of a PRO war group "Move America Forward" (does this war NEED pro war advocates?)

http://www.comcast.net/news/national/index.jsp?cat=DOMESTIC&fn=/2005/08/19/203904.html\

Meanwhile, a conservative California-based group, Move America Forward, has produced a national television commercial to say Sheehan does not speak for military families. Group founder Deborah Johns, whose son is a Marine and is featured in the ad, said she believes Sheehan's crusade discredits the soldiers serving in Iraq.

"Cindy Sheehan certainly doesn't speak for me, our military families or our men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan," Johns says in the ad.

To that I'd say "I agree that the founder of an anti war-group does not speak for your pro-aggression group, there was never any confusion about that"

As for this issue of discrediting the soldiers, I read that to mean that protesting the war suggests that the soldiers themselves are not doing their job. That makes no sense. Soldiers are not the decision makers, even if a war is not justified it is not the soldiers who are in a position to make that decision.

I could understand if she actually meant that dissent about the purpose of the war causes soldiers to feel (even more) doubt about the value of the goals they are fighting and dying for, yes but that's exactly what the protests are about, to say that SOME OF US don't feel this war is worth dying for and we want our loved ones back!
