My vision goes digital
Trippy Painter Guy, Issue 2:

Today I wake up, feeling just a bit sicker than yesterday, and assuming as I did yesterday that it was the non-latex paint that my painter had chosen to buy instead of the latex paint I had provided. The difference being that today I nearly collapsed and yesterday I did not.

I could not understand this. I went about my day, when I began to notice my vision was getting strange. A purple lightning bolt kept flashing in the left field of my vision. I had this in BOTH eyes, suggesting that this distortion was internal to my brain. Within 20 minutes I became unable to read number correctly. Regardless of where I looked on the screen any three digit number began with the first digit essentially blurred out.

My friend Steve concurs this so resembles some of the stranger effect we have witnessed with computer video cards go bad. As you might imagine, this was incredibly frustrating and potentially costly for someone who makes his living online as I do.

Finally I decide to turn off the heat for the second day in a row and air the house. Yesterday I did this and even gasketted under the door to the room being painted with old rags. Today I investigated. I found that the painter had left a roller pan filled with mineral spirits in the work area. The smell everywhere was so strong I had not noticed this sooner. He also left the cap off the bottle of mineral spirits. I read the lable. It read something like:

“Use only in well ventilated area. If indoors open ALL windows. Prolonged exposure to vapors can cause permanent neurological disorders.”

That was enough for me. I am only assuming actually blindess would have been the next step either before or after total delirium. In my next issue I MIGHT report what I told the painter after having learned this.

Current Mood: frustrated frustrated
Current Music: He blinded me with vapors

No, Teresa does not get here until Wednesday... Oh OPTICAL vision! You have to be more specific! You know how LITERAL I can be.

My vision took about 25 frightening minutes to return after I exposed myself to fresh air. You know how horrible I was feeling at LUMSFS? Well in the entire evening I did not get a whole lot better. I've been poisoned and I can see it will take me a while to recover. What worries me is if I'm going to have any lasting after-effects.

I've thought about legal action but only for altruistic purpose of running this illiterate moron out of business. Theres no point in suing for money. He owns a house he can barely keep up the payments on, a kind of backhoe sort of machine for landscaping work and he's currently driving a chevy van which he recently purchased and which could not possibly pass inspection of if you bribed everyone in sight, so I suspect he's driving it illegally like he did its predecessor.

I say illiterate because after I found out what this crap was I was breathing I called him and asked, "Did you read the label on the jug of paint thinner?" and he replied. "No?"

I say moron because according to all three professional painters I've spoken to today, not one would do what he did, leaving an open container of paint thinner inside an inhabited residence, let alone a wide open tray of it.

More on that in issue 3, should I continue.
