I don't think you're weird for not being willing to fly, but I think if you think driving is safer, you're probably sadly mistaken.

Granted Driving to San Fransisco as opposed to flying to San Francisco may actually be more dangerous, but irrelevent as I'm unlikely to do either. Driving to NYC may also be less safe (statistically) than flying to San Franscisco, I don't know, but I'm much more likely to do that.
